Matthew is the principal of CST Tax Advisors in Sydney. As a Chartered Accountant and international tax specialist, he brings more than two decades of experience to bear when advising clients who are investing or moving across borders. He holds a Master of Taxation, is a Chartered Tax Advisor and a Registered Tax Agent.

When it comes to providing tax advice, Matthew believes it is about more than the simple tax consequences. It is about gaining a deep understanding of the client’s situation to formulate clear, robust tax and business advice that deals with both current and potential tax concerns.

Professional Background

With over 20 years of experience providing international tax advice to a wide range of clients, Matthew is well adept at helping clients manage and plan for the tax outcomes and opportunities, both domestically and abroad.

With extensive qualifications in international taxation and personal experience living as an expat, Matthew is a leader in his field with specialist expertise in relation to trusts, controlled foreign companies, international taxation and advising Australian businesses expanding overseas.

CST Tax Advisors Principal 

Matthew is the principal of CST Tax Advisors in Sydney. He was previously the Managing Director of CST’s Singapore office, where he lived and managed CST’s advisory businesses across multiple countries.

Having been an expatriate, Matthew experienced first-hand the challenges of moving internationally and setting up businesses overseas. He also acts as a specialist, providing tailored advice to assist other accounting firms to manage their clients’ international tax matters.

Qualifications 

Matthew’s qualifications include a Master of Taxation from the Australian School of Taxation (ATAX) at the University of New South Wales. Matthew was awarded the Allens Arthur Robinson prize for the best performance by a graduating student.

His other qualifications include a Bachelor in Commerce from Macquarie University, where Matthew graduated with an award of meritorious academic excellence.

In Australia, he is a Chartered Tax Advisor, a Chartered Accountant, a Registered Tax Agent and a Member of the Sydney chapter of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. In addition, Matthew is a Singapore Chartered Accountant and a Singapore Accredited Tax Advisor.

Leader In International Tax

As a well-established expert in a broad range of Australian international tax areas, Matthew is extensively involved in helping Australians and Australian companies to expand overseas. In addition, Matthew has written for publications in the Taxation In Australia Journal (Sep 2020, Nov 2003), STEP Journal (Feb 2019), International Tax Report (Dec 2018), and The Tax Specialist Journal (Feb 2007).

Personal Background

Matthew is married and has two children. Matthew’s many interests outside of work includes music, art, history and sports – Matthew is a die-hard basketball fan.
